About the VCOS
The Vespa Club of Seattle was formed to provide a
good way of organizing all the different types of European scooter riders in Seattle into a group that
does not revolve around music, fashion or one particular lifestyle, but simply
held together by the love of the Vespa scooter. The main mission of the Vespa
Club of Seattle
is to promote both the Vespa scooter and the good will of its many diverse
riders to our community.
One of the first goals of the Vespa Club of Seattle was to associate with the FIV
(Federation of International Vespa Owners) This involved setting up bylaws and
rules according to FIV regulations. We were one of the few clubs that took the
time to organize this information and new benefit from this aspect. Now that
FIV has disbanded we strive, as individuals, to be a part of not only Vespa
Club of America
but the worldwide community of Vespa owners.
A large active membership will allow us the resources to provide patches,
pennants, pins, leg shield banners and badges that members could use to trade
with other Vespa clubs around the world and demonstrate our zeal and love for
our scooters. The club will act as a clearinghouse for information on
everything from upcoming rides around the city or around the world to help
someone with questions about restorations or changing a clutch cable.
For the past 20 years Seattle
has had a huge scooter community, but it’s
organization has varied over the years. At this time there are thousands of
people that own and ride European scooters around Puget
Sound. This is probably the largest number of riders the Northwest
has seen and there are very few places in North America
that can boast such numbers. Currently there are about 10 or so scooter clubs
active around the Seattle
area. It is important that the Vespa Club of Seattle works with and involves these clubs
in the events and activities it sponsors. In this way the club can stay focused
on promoting the Vespa scooter but can still help with other activities that
many of the members are interested in.
Because of the vast and diverse amount of knowledge available in the Seattle scooter
community, there is simply nothing that a well-organized group cannot put
together. Anything from a simple well-designed patch, book on Northwest scooter
history or even a cable access show on scooters or scooter repair - there are
people with the skill to do all of these things in our local scooter community.
