Ride out to Hamster Run 5 – July 23

Chuck Pefley has been kind enough to lead a ride to Bellingham for Hamster Run 5. I have joined this ride in the past and it’s a good long day of riding in some great scenic areas on Washington.

If you want to ride up with him and other club members here is the info.

As in past years, Chuck will be leading a ride from Seattle, via Whidbey Island, to Bellingham.

Depart from Fremont Coffee at 459 North 36th Street at 9:30 AM on Friday, July 23rd. Note this is not “Scooter Time” they will leave at 9:30 AM with or without you.

Planned stops are Langley on Whidbey for lunch, and probably a coffee and gas stop in Oak Harbor. Final pause before doing Chuckanut Drive will be at the Longhorn Saloon in the tiny town of Edison.

Please note that this route is for Scooters 150cc and larger as there is some 45/55 MPH stretches.

July general meeting

Don’t forget tomorrow (July 13th) is the General Meeting at our new meeting location, Gorditos in Greenwood.

Meeting starts at 8pm

Pride Parade 2010

SQREAM has invited VCOS to join them in the 2010 Seattle Pride Parade Sunday June 27th. It’s a lot of fun and a great way to show the fun of scooting to a large crowd. Estimated attendance this year is expected to be 400,000 spectators.

Here’s the official information on riding with SQREAM in the Seattle Pride Parade on Sunday June 27th. The theme this year is “Over The Rainbow” so let’s see some colorful decorations on those scooters!

We’re 2nd in line in the parade behind the Dykes on Bikes. The staging area has been changed from previous years and our assembly point is now half-way down the block on 4th Ave between Seneca and Spring on the east side. They haven’t given the Dykes as much room this year so the block will be pretty crowded. There will be a lot more barricades blocking off streets this year and all motorcycles and scooters are required to enter the zone going westbound on Seneca only, turning left onto 4th Ave. Park your scooter in the assembly area before you head to the Purple Registration Table in front of the Hotel Monaco.

Registration opens at 8:00AM and you will not be permitted to participate in the parade if you are not registered by 10:30AM. There is only one table to register all bikes and scooters this year, so arrive early and expect to stand in line. The parade starts at 11:00AM.

You need the bring the following with you for registration: $10 cash, the signed Hold Harmless Form, a photocopy of your drivers’ license, and a photocopy of your proof of insurance. It’s true that Washington State doesn’t require insurance on scooters. However, the liability insurer that Out & Proud selected to cover the parade requires all vehicles be insured, no exceptions. Helmets need to be worn riding to and from the parade route, but are not required during the parade.

Bring sunscreen, a water bottle, and lots of stuff to decorate your scooter. Feel free to invite scooter friends from outside the club to ride with us too. See you at the parade!
